Mental health is as important as your physical health” by Marisha Rathore

Hello there, do you remember when you were young ?
You must have heard your elders, peers talk about how important it is to stay physically fit, do well academically, be successful etc. Now, try t o recall if anyone ever spoke to you about naming and dealing with your conflicted emotions, your feelings of happiness, sadeness etc. I am sure only a few of you must have learnt a conscious and healthy approach of taking care of your mental health.
In our society talking about mental health is still a taboo because people often feel that seeking any help will project their weakness. On the contrary one does not feel embarrassed to go to see a physician for a mild fever.
The more aware you will become about mental health you will realize everyone around you is going through highs and lows in their lives. Some people can cope without external help but some need help to learn healthy coping mechanisms. The idea of a healthy coping mechanism is that it does not create any dysfunction in our everyday lives. We all have various kinds of coping mechanisms. We use mechanisms like denial, repression, rationalization etc. The moment you or someone close to you realizes that a dysfunction is being created, it is time to introspect and view things from a different perspective.
We all have this fast-pace life that we are leading, but I genuinely believe that one can stop for a moment and figure out what is good for one’s mental health and what is not.
Once we know what makes us feel productive and rejuvenated, we can try doing that to relax.
The moment you accept your strengths and weaknesses, you will begin your journey towards evolving everyday, to evolve we just need to unlearn old patterns and learn new ones.
Good luck for your journey ahead !!!
